"It Works If You Work It." Does it really?

What do you think?

The phrase "it works" (green line) was not used much until after the American revolution, and "if you work it" has never been widely used, unless it's use has changed since 2008, the most recent year currently available via nGram View (Google the term if you don't know about nGrams.)
